Adelaide

The capital city of South Australia, with a population of 1.1 million people, Adelaide is located on the shores of the Gulf of Saint Vincent.  Adelaide is noted for its many festivals and sporting events, its food, wine and culture, and its long beachfronts.  Adelaide is known for its Australian heritage architecture, which retains many of the buildings from when the area was settled by Europeans in the early 1800s.

Accommodation: Adelaide Heritage Accomodation - Two nights.

Flinders Ranges

A national landscape, the Flinders Ranges is the largest mountain range in South Australia, and starts approximately 200 kilometres North West of Adelaide.  The ranges stretch for over 430 kilometres across South Australia, running North/South.  The most characteristic landmark is Wilpena Pound, a large, half-moon shaped natural amphitheatre covering nearly 80 square kilometres.  Wilpena Pound includes St Mary’s Peak, which at 1170 metres is the Ranges highest peak.

Accommodation: Two nights in an award-winning eco-villa on Rawnsley Park Station, with all meals.

Includes:  Includes one day shared 4WD tour with local guide of the Flinders Ranges.  Tour includes lunch.

Coober Pedy

The Opal Capital of the World, Coober Pedy is an opal mining town.  The town is approximately half-way between Adelaide and the Red Centre of Australia.  Opal was first found in Coober Pedy in 1915, and has since been supplying the world with the majority of gem quality opal.  Coober Pedy has a population of 4500 people, that include over 45 different nationalities.  The majority of residents live underground to escape the searing summer heat.

Accommodation: One night in the world’s only underground hotel, with all meals.

Included:  half-day town tour with a visit down an Opal Mine, and into an underground home.

Gawler Ranges

600 kilometres to the North West of Adelaide on the Eyre Peninsula, the Gawler Ranges are Outback Australia at its best.  The diverse terrain changes from arid to semi-desert, while the age old volcanic landscapes offer spectacular gorges and weathered rocky outcrops.

In Spring (August to October), the desert comes alive with a carpet of wildflowers covering the landscape, which attracts over 100 species of birdlife, and a range of colours that are something to be seen.  There are large kangaroo, emu, and wombat populations in the region throughout the year.

Accommodation: Two nights in a luxury safari tent at Kangaluna Camp, with queen size bed, hardwood floors, and private en-suite, all meals included and hosted, (limited alcohol with dinner).

Includes two days shared 4WD tour with local guide, and the opportunity to swim with wild dolphins & sea-lion's in the pristine waters of Baird Bay (in season – September to May).

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is Australia’s third largest island, and is approximately the same size as Singapore.  Kangaroo Island offers an amazing variety of Australian wildlife in their natural environment.  Seals basking on quiet beaches, koalas perched in gum trees, echidnas waddling along with their distinctive gait, or goannas, wallabies, penguins and native birds.  Kangaroos are a part of the landscape as they go about their daily life.  One third of the Island is protected in national parks, and half the island has never been cleared of natural vegetation.

Highlights include:
» Seal Bay, and a walk on the beach among an Australian sea lion colony
» Flinders Chase National Park, the home to native animals.
» Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch, spectacular rock formations sculpted by time.
» Enjoy peaceful bush walks, searching for native Australian wildlife.

Accommodation: Two nights in Kangaroo Island’s finest Bed & Breakfasts, Seascapes Lodge of Emu Bay, with three course evening meal and buffet breakfast featuring Island produce.  All meals included, and hosted.

Includes:  Two days shared, small group (max of 6 passengers) 4WD touring, with local, knowledgeable guide.  Tours include BBQ or gourmet picnic lunches.
